Railed

railed

My final Photo project has to do with shadows and light on Philadelphia buildings. I love how a shadow can change the color of something and buildings in particular, have some great angles which make great shadows.

I hadn’t been that happy with my shots taken with my D50, I think mostly because I was trying to hard to get that perfect shot. Instead I decided to take out my little point and shoot, a Canon PowerShot SD200 and got a few shots that I’m really happy with, especially this one, entitled “Railed”.

I played around with it, adjusting the white balance and exposure and curves, in Photoshop and I’m really happy with the outcome.

It’s crazy how a change of equipment can help you get back into the swing of things. I think I will have to start carrying around my p&s with me more often so that I can capture things a little more on the fly and not feel so conspicuous and like I have to get the perfect shot since I’ve got my big camera out.

Photoshop Split Tone

split toned flower

regular

I have a ton of photos to upload to Flickr, but I’ve had school work to do lately, and just haven’t felt like doing all the processing. Most of them are from class and to be honest, I haven’t been to ecstatic about what I’ve been doing in class, so that’s partly why I’ve been rather lax in posting them.

Anyway, I stumbled on this tutorial for a split tone effect in Photoshop.  I really like the effect and the more than just black and white tinting.  Now that we are moving, I want to fill the house with my photos and art.  I really like this photo of the flower in my mom’s garden the way it is, especially with the bits of pink the background, but I wanted to try the effect out.  I’m off to play around some more!

Absolutely Stunning

London from above, at night - The Big Picture

Absolutely gorgeous pictures of London at night.  London is my favorite city in the world - I love the people, the culture, the history mixed with the contemporary, everything (well, maybe aside from the unfavorable exchange rates!).  It’s really cool to see the arial shots - they almost look like HDR.  I love the one of the traffic circle and the one of Waterloo station.

Olympic Photos

Untitled Document [via] (edit: 9/2/08 - link broken, I’m sure due to copyright issues)

Some really awesome photos from the Olympics - weird angles, painful moments, things that might not be normally seen as typical photos from the Olympics, but interesting and beautiful nonetheless.

Beijing Olympics Stadium: About 30 Minutes before the men’s 100m Final

Really cool panning panorama of the track before the Men’s 100m final.  I love how the perspective changes from the close ups of the other photographers to the sheer distance/height across the stadium.

Print Out

Yesterday I picked up the first print of my photos - an 8X10 that I had made at Ritz located near school.  I must say that I’m extremely impressed by myself and probably moreso, my camera!  I’m not much of an artist when it comes to drawing/painting/what have you - but photography is different.  I love being able to express the things I see through this creative medium.  I love telling a story through a photograph or just expressing the beauty of something.  I may never be professional, but if I can live in a home filled with art created by me I will be a very happy person.

I’m off to browse Ikea for some cheap frames that can hopefully make a nice display of some other photos of mine.
